The way most tents work to control climate is by exhausting air from inside the tent to the outside. This pulls in fresh air from outside the tent to replace it. By exhausting old air we remove heat and humidity from inside the tent created by our light and transpiration. If the ambient air is dry, you may need to add a humidifier or other means of creating humidity to your setup so your climate doesn't become too dry.


Creating the proper environment for your cannabis plants in a grow tent involves managing key factors such as temperature, humidity, lighting, air circulation, and more. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you create an optimal environment for your plants:


Set up the Grow Tent:

Assemble the grow tent according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Ensure all zippers, flaps, and vents are properly sealed to maintain a lightproof environment.


Temperature Control:

Place a thermometer inside the grow tent to monitor the temperature.
Adjust the ambient temperature by using ventilation, fans, and/or a heater or air conditioner as needed.
Aim to maintain the appropriate temperature range for each growth stage of cannabis (as mentioned earlier).


Humidity Management:

Install a hygrometer to measure humidity levels.
Use a humidifier to increase humidity if it's too low. Place it outside the grow tent and direct the humidified air into the tent.
If humidity is too high, use a dehumidifier or increase ventilation to bring it down.

You can use any full spectrum light source you want. However the best types of lights will fall into one of 3 categories:


High Pressure Sodium (HPS) and Metal Halide (MH) provide high lumens, but are not as efficient as other types and produce a lot more heat. These lights will need good ventilation to stay at optimal temperatures.


Flourescent lights provide soft even light and are more efficient than HPS or MH lights, but don't put out a lot of light energy. They are best for seedlings or freshly cut clones. 


LED or Light Emitting Diode lights bring the best of both worlds with high amounts of light energy and penny pinching efficiency, LED lights have quickly become the go-to for cannabis cultivation.


We recommend an LED light to start off with as someone just starting their new hobby. LEDs make a small amount of heat, provide the best efficiency, and are compatible with smart controllers. 

Grow tents range in size, from 2'x2' all the way up to 10'x20', so it really just depnds on the size of your space. We always recommend that you leave at least 12" around the outside of your tent to promote air circulation around your tent, and to prevent safehavens for insects.
